a culture of evaluation in an open world home page > a brief presentation : a bridge towards asia since its foundation in 1998, the groupe d'economie mondiale (gem) has worked on a whole range of trade issues and regulatory reforms, and developed a few specific programs on agriculture, biofuels, water among others (see here ). since 2010, gem has greatly developed its activities on and in east asia, with conferences in europe involving economists from east asia, and with the participation of its affiliates to many events in east asia. these activities will continue to grow, thanks to the increasing number of gem regular partners in east asia. in particular, gem has initiated an east asia-eu roundtable with the chinese academy of social sciences (cass), korea's seoul national university (snu) and japan's research institute of economics, trade and industry (rieti) as its key asian partners. the roundtable has already met twice (brussels december 2012, beijing january 2014) and it will meet a third time in august 2014 (adelaide, australia) in the context of the australian g20 summit. gem-affiliated scholars are regularly exposed to audiences in east asia, including in popular media/tv programmes, such as korea's arirang heart to heart (p. messerlin, june 2013, see events ).
